Openvpn Fatal Error

Tried to connect to vpn using openvpn and received this fatal error:

Sun Aug 18 14:31:37 2019 GDG6: remote_host_ipv6=n/a
Sun Aug 18 14:31:37 2019 ROUTE6: default_gateway=UNDEF
Sun Aug 18 14:31:37 2019 ERROR: Cannot ioctl TUNSETIFF tun: Operation not permitted (errno=1)
Sun Aug 18 14:31:37 2019 Exiting due to fatal error

How do I fix this?

  • Try "sudo openvpn blahblahblah.ovpn"

  • nothing works m facing similar issue

  • that one looks to me like you are using an unpriviledged user -

if I issue su user1 (i.e. move to a non root account) from root and try it :-

    [email protected]:/root$ openvpn /root/Documents/CurioCT.ovpn

    same result

if you are non root as someone above mentions sudo is the command to use a command as root (literally superuser do)
